Ian’s Pizza on State Street Gains Worldwide Notoriety

Ian’s Pizza, on State Street in Madison, Wisconsin, is known to most of the students at the nearby university. However, Ian’s Pizza was catapulted into worldwide fame overnight when the mother of a University of Wisconsin student called to donate $200 to buy pizza to feed protesters who thronged the Capitol building in February of 2011. When Ian’s Pizza posted this on their Facebook page, calls started pouring in from all over the United States — and all over the world. Egyptians, who had earlier shown their solidarity with the Wisconsin protesters in Tahrir Square, donated pizza to the Wisconsin protesters. Ian’s Pizza has been overwhelmed with orders and has had to stop taking orders in the afternoon in order to accommodate the huge outpouring of support that has been shown from countries as far away as Turkey.
