Kakadu park in the Northern Territory of Australia is one of the most remote and mysterious places on planet earth. Home to humans for well over 30,000 years there are numerous petroglyphs and other signs of human habitation. Aboriginal tribes lived off the land here for countless generations and utilized what they could find for food. Many petroglyphs are based on the Aboriginal creation belief of the “dreamtime” and feature the image of spirits believed to have created the world.

You get an amazing feeling of timelessness there in the park. It is almost like there is some kind of “vortex” if you believe in that sort of thing. You can feel ancient spirits around you, or so it seemed to me. Walking in a land that was isolated from the rest of the world for thousands of years is a unique experience.

Kakadu park is also where “Crocodile Dundee” was filmed.

To visit Kakadu park you must fly into Darwin, the capitol of the Northern Territory and take a bus or car out to the park which is locate about an hour away. There is a unique crocodile shaped hotel there inside the park headquarters.
